The Board of Trustees is responsible for the actions and decisions of the Montclair Historical Society. Activities of the Board are carried out through committees that report back to the Board with recommendations.

The Society receives support from the New Jersey Historical Commission, a division of Cultural Affairs in the Department of State. Funding for the exterior stabilization and restoration of Evergreens has been made possible in part by the New Jersey Historic Trust-State of New Jersey. Support for certain other Society projects is provided by public funds from the Garden State Historic Preservation Trust Fund administered by the New Jersey Historic Trust, and by the Helm Foundation.
