HISTORICAL SKILLS SUMMER CAMP
AT MONTCLAIR HISTORICAL SOCIETY
Montclair Historical Society offers for the first time a unique “Historical Skills Summer Camp” July 7 through July 11 from 9:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M at the Israel Crane House Museum complex and air conditioned Clark House 108 and 110 Orange Road, Montclair, NJ.
Each morning a “living history” artisan will help children, ages 8 and up, to learn an historical skill: weaving textile, weaving a basket, quilting, sewing a penny rug. The artisans are not only talented in their historical crafts, but also experienced in teaching the skills to children.
Campers will even enter the world of an apprentice, as our resident blacksmith, Sean Burns, demonstrates his craft in our fully equipped blacksmith shop. On another special day, Earl Becker will bring his brand of edutainment to the camp with his program, “Wampum, Trade Beads, and the Life of an 18th Century Soldier.” The fun will keep going every day with historical toys and games supervised by a certified NJ teacher.
Enrollment cost is $200 per child for the week, including a daily snack and numerous supplies. Pre-registration is required and ends June 15. Registration is limited to 15 children, and early registration assures a reservation. To register, please mail a check made to “Montclair Historical Society” to 108 Orange Rd., Montclair, NJ 07042-2133. For more information call 973-744-1796.
